While the population has been stable since 2000, there has been substantial economic growth in Mineral County. Both the civilian labor force and total employment in the county grew by more than 10 percent. The job growth was even greater, leading to a slight drop in the unemployment rate.

Service employment comprises over 76.9% of non-farm payroll jobs. Over 80% of all county residents who worked held jobs in either Mineral County (43.6 percent) or Allegany County, MD (36.6 percent).

Private sector employment in Mineral County is dominated by three economic sectors. Almost one quarter of the workforce is employed in manufacturing. In addition, more than one-sixth is employed in both retail trade and health care sectors. Combined, three out of every five county workers in 2005 worked in one of these three industries.

While traditional industry remains important in Mineral County, other types of employment are beginning to take on prominence in the county, as well.
