CSX lines run along the Potomac River on the northern border of the county and is the state line with Maryland.

Amtrak service is available at the Cumberland, Md., Amtrak Station located less than a mile from Ridgeley, West Virginia, the county’s northernmost city. Keyser, West Virginia's railroad station closed in the 1980s.
Highways
It is 15 miles to Interstate 68 and US Route 40; 50 miles to the Pennsylvania Turnpike at Bedford, Pa.; and 112 miles to Interstate 81 at Winchester, Va.
